IF CLAUSE

 

 IF CLAUSE FOLLOWED BY SUGGESTION OR IMPERATIVE.

 

What do you know about clause?

A clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a predicate. A clause is either independent or dependent.

A.   Suggestion

1.     You should get married.

2.     You shouldn’t get married.

3.     You need to get married.

4.      Let’s get married.

5.     Shall you get married?

6.     How about getting married.

7.     What about getting married.

8.     I suggest you get married.

9.     I suggest that you get married.

10. I suggest getting married.

11. It’s a good idea to get married.

12.  Why don’t you get married?

13. You could get married.

B.   Command / Imperative

v Positive Command:

Command always begins with a verb.

1.     Go out!

2.     Stand up!

3.     Come here!

      Negative Command:

1.     Don’t go out!

2.     Don’t come here!

3.     Don’t leave me alone!

C.   IF CLAUSE

Pattern: If + Subject + verb 1

IF CLAUSE + SUGGESTION

1.     If you want to visit Pango-Pango, you should use a taxi motorcycle.

2.     If you want to visit Pango-Pango, you should wear warm clothes.

3.     If you want to visit Pango-Pango, you should take picture there.

IF CLAUSE + COMMAND/IMPERATIVE

1.     If you want to visit Pango-Pango, don’t go alone!

2.     If you want to visit Pango-Pango, do not wear clothes that are slightly exposed.

3.     If you want to visit Pango-Pango, try to keep clean.

4.     If you want to visit Pango-Pango, don't leave the trash there.

D.   Expanding IF CLAUSE

Study these sentences!

1.     If you come to XII MIA 2 Class, meet with two handsome boys sit near the window.

2.     You could be Panca’s friend if you study in XII MIA 2 class.

3.     It’s a good idea to come to XII MIA 2 if you want to meet Dewinka.

4.     If you meet Monica, why don’t you ask her phone number?

5.     Don’t laugh at me if you didn’t brush your teeth before.

6.     Don’t laugh at me unless you brush your teeth before.

          If not = unless

E.    CONCLUSION
If Clause pattern and functions as:

*If clause + suggestion

*If clause + imperative/command

But sometimes,

      If clause + fact

          If you come to XII MIA 2 class today, there are many excellent students

      If clause + opinion

          If you meet Zefanya, I think you will have joy.

                                  

Your exercise!

Create a brochure by choosing one of these topics:

1.     Tourism sites in Toraja and the corona virus pandemic.

2.     SMAN 5 Tana Toraja and  the corona virus pandemic.

Notes:

-         Use your own pictures / take the picture by yourself.

-         Use if clause + suggestion and if clause + imperative in your brochure.

-         Use your own ideas to collect information. Do not copy from internet.

-         Share your brochure through your social media account: facebook and Instagram.

-         Collect as many as possible likes and comments.

-         The deadline is September 30, 2020.
