Subject + should + be + Verb-ing (Gerund)
To express the best thing to do or what somebody is expected to do at this moment.
Example:
Boby says: I should be studying English grammar this semester.
This sentence means Boby is not studying yet, but he thinks it is good idea to study this semester.
Subject + should + have + Verb 3
It was the right thing to do but we didn’t do it. We expected something to happen, but it didn’t.
Example:
Alfianus said:
I should have worn my school uniform.
This sentence means Alfianus should have worn his school uniform, but he didn’t wear it.
Complete the following sentences with the right form of should + be verb-ing or should have + verb 3.
- Antika… (close) the door when her father went out.
- Julya … (wait) Ludia before joining English lesson now.
- The old man is coughing a lot. He … (not smoke) too much.
- Wulan … (grate) some coconuts. Her mother didn’t have any coconut milk yet.
